Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film from 2013. It follows Victor Crowley's murderous rampage across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.



The film's special effects are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical as well as sets. This is different from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder is a standout among the (click now to view blog posts) cast, and he's an intimidating villain. The dialogue is a bit snarky and tongue-in-cheek for it to be reminiscent of a classic '80s slasher movie at moments. There are also some hilarious moments that stand out against all the gut-wrenching scenes.

Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most of the locations are repeats from previous films in the series--the same boat house was used two times within the movie and much of it feels like it's been recycled from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which could result in the movie feeling too familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was a good series. There were many gory moments and some great performances from the cast.
